What is balfolk?

Balfolk is European folk dancing that originated in France, but spread over the whole of Europe. The focus is on dancing many different, but simple dances and then build/vary upon those. This makes it easy to start with and fun to keep doing! Within balfolk we even dance polska once in a while.

What are we going to do?

In a day, Tim and Jolanda are going to teach you the basics of several different balfolk dances, including focus on posture and variations. The course will be in English, but we can try to translate some words to Swedish if needed. Because the basics of the dances are pretty simple, after this first day, you will be able to dance along to the many different tunes. We will teach you a range of dances, including chappeloise (a group dance), hanter dro (a row dance) and schottish (a couple dance).

Everyone is welcome! We don't dance with a fixed dance partner, so don't hesitate to come on your own. You don't need to have any previous dance experience.

Who are Tim and Jolanda?

Tim and Jolanda have been dancing balfolk for almost 10 years throughout the whole of Europe. Jolanda is an internationally known balfolk teacher who has taught balfolk in seven different countries. In addition Tim and Jolanda both play balfolk music; Tim plays multiple instruments in three bands and has recorded two balfolk albums.
